8:10 - Zero Pucks Given 7 McCafe 6

View Boxscore

Welcome Originals to the Fall 2024 season... the opener of week 1 had Pat Gaudreaus's Zero Pucks Given taking on the Malloy boy's McCafe. Play would be tentative at first as both teams tried to adjust to the new surroundings, in fact it would take almost 12 minutes to see the first goal of the game which came off a patented snap shot from boomer Richard Tattrie 🎩🎩🎩, Rich would snipe again soon after to put his team up a pair with 5 to play in the period. MCC's namesake keeper MC Chartrand was busy in the first period and would finally be beaten by ZPG sub Jason Muscant 🚨🚨🍏🍏, that goal would start the mojo for ZPG and they would go on to strike twice more including a buzzer beater off the stick of Hannah Macdonell 🚨🚨🍏 to hold a 3-2 lead at the half.
The second would see play open up considerably as all signs point to this gym being a good one for the shooters to dominate, just 8 seconds into the period MCC captain Jonathan Malloy 🚨🚨 would pop his first of the campaign which was quickly answered by opposing captain Pat Gaudreau 🚨🍏 to regain the 1 goal lead. Fast forward to less than 2 minutes to play and ZPG still leading by one, that is until MCC sub Chris Stott's 🚨🍏 long bomb with 1:10 remaining knotted the score at 6-6, ZPG would not giv eup however and just 20 seconds later Hannah Macdonell would play hero with the go ahead goal, this time ZPG would hold the lead and walk away 7-6 victors in a wild season opener.

9:00 - Nesbitt's Risky Biscuits 10 Darth Veda 3

View Boxscore

Game 2 had familiar faces and former teammates on opposite ends as Kortnie Legari's Nesbitt's Risky Biscuits stared down Michel Blondeau's Darth Veda. With plenty of vets on both teams it was a rookie who would get this game started just 37 ticks in as Vinnie Lundon 🚨 opened the scoring for NRB with his first O4 goal, that goal was quickly matched by vet Daniel Blondeau 🚨🚨 and this game was off and running. DV have a host of long time Originals on the team but also feature a rookie between the pipes in Veda Loknath and this game was a tough introduction for the rookie tender, the Biscuits would dominate the opening frame thanks to their pair of dual threat dynamos Steven Toste 🎩🎩🎩🍏🍏🍏 and Stephane Chenier 🎩🎩🎩🍏🍏 to hold a 6-2 lead at the break.
The second period would start on a strong note for DV thanks to D. Blondeau's 2nd of the game but that was as good as it would get as NRB fail to give in to the "dark side" notching 4 straight goals to seal a mercy victory with 7:34 left to play.

9:50 - Heron My Balls 6 Because Children 4

View Boxscore

Taking the floor at 9:50 we saw Muscant's Heron My Balls facing off versus Because Children featuring the return of Commish Frewen between the pipes, his first season in that spot since the Spring 2011 season. BC would open the socring halfway through the first when Jeff Murphy 🚨🚨🍏 managed to roof a backhand in tight, but quickly after returning vet and new mom Kaitlin Heron 🚨🍏 would get HMB even potting a rebound to knot the game at 1-1. 11 minutes into the period and we would finally hear from HMB sniper Brad McCarter 🎩🎩🎩🚨🍏 as he popped a pair to finish the first period giving his team a 3-1 lead at the break.
BC would come out strong in the 2nd scoring the only 2 goals of the first 10 minutes to tie the game up once more 3-3, then with less than 3 minutes to play Murphy would take a great pass from Mona Le Blanc 🚨🍏 to give BC a late lead wtih 2:45 to play. Unfortunately for BC the game was far from over, with about 90 seconds remaining McCarter was at it again, first deftly tapping a backwall rebound out of the air to tie the game then 40 seconds later Brad would take advantage of a turnover in the slot to hammer home the GWG, HMB added an ENG late and take home the comeback victory by a 6-4 final score.

10:40 - Auger Simpson 8 Who's Your Doddy? 4

View Boxscore

The halfway point of week 1 was a good matchup with Richer's Who's Your Doddy? looking to open the season with a victory over Andrew Stephens' Auger Simpson. In a sign of things to come AS skipper Andrew Stephens 🎩🎩🎩🚨🚨 would open the scoring in this game and was on fire throughout, in fact Andrew would notch a first half hat trick to give AS a 3-1 lead at thebreak, although credit also has to go to his goalkeeper Jeff Squires who faced 30 first half shots only allowing one past.
The opening draw of the 2nd period would see that lead extended as rookie Luisa Lawson 🚨🍏 would win the ball to her partner and fellow rookie Jayme Albert 🚨🚨, he would snipe his first O4 goal to make it a 4-1 lead just 5 seocnds in and with Squires continuing his strong play in the period that would basically seal thsi one. Stephens would go on to score 2 more goals as WYD make a bit of noise late but end up on the wrong side of an 8-4 final score.

11:30 - No Way José 5 Hawkins Hungover Hooligans 4

View Boxscore

Next up we had scoring sensation but rookie captain Austin Perron's No Way José taking on Devin McManus' Hawkins Hungover Hooligans, a team featuring 4 vets returning from an O4 break including team name inspiration Ryan Hawkisn back from another Florida adventure. The game would start off looking like it was unlikely to last the full 40 minutes as Perron would start this season like he ended the last one lighting it up offensively, Austin 🎩🎩🎩🚨🍏and spare Sean Frewen 🍏🍏🍏🍏 would combine on 4 goals in the opening 15 minutes to make it 4-0 quickly for NWJ, however the rest of the game would prove much closer than anticipated, one of the returnees Cindy Villeneuve 🚨🍏would get HHH on the board before "Mickey Mouse" Hawkins 🚨🍏 would light the lamp late in the frame to make it 4-2 at halftime.
Goalies Brock Murray and rookie Shane Rumboldt would be the stars of the 2nd period as both would be spectacular especially in the opening minutes, finally captain Devin McManus 🚨🍏 would make it a 1 goal game with 8 minutes to play, seconds later it was Perron with his 4th for insurance, a goal that would turn out to be the game winner as HHH add one more late but can't beat Murray again to fall 5-4, a result that hast to be at least a moral victory after falling into a large hole to start.

12:20 - Brent's Blasters 4 Car Trouble 4

View Boxscore

Second last game of our opening week had a pair of teams with high expectations taking the floor as Brock Murray's Car Trouble faced off against Mona & Kelly's Brent's Blasters, the game featured 2 of the stronger veteran goaltenders playing in the league this season and both goalies did not disappoint in this game. The ladies for Car Trouble would get things started as Tina Osborne 🚨 and Valerie Gies 🚨 both notched first period goals, BB would answer with just a single from Frank Zic 🚨🚨 as CT took a 2-1 lead into the break with the goalies stopping 33 of 36 shots on goal.
BB substiute Jeff Murphy 🚨🚨 would get going in the 2nd, his second goal halfway through the frame would put his temporary team up 4-3, however fellow spare Pierre Lalonde 🚨🍏 would get in on the action converting a feed from his captain Brock Murray 🚨🍏 for the game tying goal with 5 minutes remaining. Brent and Justin would shut things down the rest of the way as this game ends deadlocked at 4-4.

1:10 - Vanier Assassins 9 Fuzzy Privates 5

View Boxscore

The final matchup of the week had Doug Tattrie's Fuzzy Privates trying to open the season on a high note versus Dave Allston's Vanier Assassins. A couple of Fuzzy spares would combine to open the scoring early as Richard Tattrie 🚨🚨🍏 converted a Kim Richer 🍏🍏 feed 2 minutes in, that goal was quickly matched by returning vet, fireballer Spencer McDonald 🎩🎩🎩 and VA were off and running. By the time the first half ended VA had struck for 4 more goals and held acommanding 5-2 lead thanks mainly to a 24-12 edge on the shot counter.
Reunited dynamic duo Kelly Brant 🚨🚨🍏 and Dave Allston 🚨🚨🍏🍏🍏 would combine on a beauty to start the 2nd period making it 6-2. With time ticking away it appeared as though that would be it for scoring but things got crazy in the final minutes, with 3 minutes left to play FP captain Doug Tattrie
🚨🚨🍏 would go on a tear notching 3 points in less than 2 minutes to make it a 6-5 game. FP would pull the goaltender but the move would backfire with VA scoring no less than 3 ENG to make the final score much worse than the game showed as the Assassins open the season with a 9-5 victory.
